About Us

The Orange County Fire Authority Pipes & Drums was created in late 1997 and became an official function of the Fire Authority in March 1999 with the approval of Fire Chief Chip Prather. Today, the group has eighteen members and upcoming students that have a desire to learn. What’s unique about the band is that it is made up members that are employees of the OCFA.

The Orange Fire Authority Pipes & Drums has had the honor to perform at various functions such as academy graduations, promotional ceremonies, dedications, memorials and funerals for the Fire Authority, neighboring fire departments and colleges. They have also had the opportunity to perform in the 2004 Rose Bowl Parade, the Jerry Lewis Telethon, the Jay Leno Show, and the opening ceremonies to the Long Beach Grand Prix. “Our major accomplishment has been the chance to play along side other Fire Department bands throughout the country such as Cleveland, Houston, Seattle/Pierce Co., New York and Greater Boston to name a few”.

The Bagpipe is not an easy instrument to learn, “We have come a long way in a long time”. The band hopes to grow in size and perfect its ability to perform, bringing Fire Department tradition to its events. The band’s motto “Onoir Do Na Marbh”, Gaelic for “Honor the Fallen” is represented in the band’s logo to remember those firefighters whom have paid the ultimate sacrifice.  The Orange County Fire Authority represents 1200 firefighters in 66 fire stations with an annual call load of 90,000+ runs serving 1.6 million citizens.
